Color Hues # 118

Jules has chosen the colors for our mid-September Color Hues Challenge:

Initially, I was a bit puzzled about these colors wondering what papers and inks I might have that matched. It didn’t take long to find Faded Jeans and Bundled Sage Distress Oxide inks which were a pretty close match. I also had a Waffle Flower Postage Collage Wild Flower set that I had only used once before, and I was happy to get it out again.

To achieve some variation in the color, I simply used a light hand for the first floral stencil, and a firmer hand when stenciling the second. Concord & 9th came out with new colors this year, and the Pistachio is a beautiful sage green. After stenciling I added some of the postage images from the Waffle Flower Postage Collage stamp set. I die cut a panel of the cardstock with The Greetery Postal Frames before arranging three of the images with dimensional tape. The sentiment and die are from Waffle Flowers Postage Collage Circle Sentiments.

For the border I pulled out The Greetery’s Airmail Border stencil. I purchased it a long time ago, but this is it’s debut. One more item out of the NBUS box. I ended up liking this color combination a lot. One of the things I love about card challenges, including ours, is that I try things I wouldn’t have thought to use. This is one of them, and I think it will end up on repeat in the future.

I hope you’ll join us this round, and I’ll look for you in the gallery! Be sure to check out the inspiration waiting for you from our Guest Designer and Design Team on the Color Hues blog.

  1. Every time you use a WF stencil, I feel the need to purchase it. LOL This is just wonderful, Karen! The striped background really tied it together.

  2. This is so pretty Karen! I just recently purchased this stencil and now I’m even more excited to use it after seeing your lovely card. Great inspiration using those colors. Thanks so much for having me as a guest designer. I enjoyed the challenge!

  3. Your postage collage card featuring the Wild Flowers makes me smile; it’s ever so lovely and eye-catching. Talk about a fabulous way to showcase the challenge colours.

  4. WOW, WOW, WOW!! You nailed this challenge Karen!! The color pairing is perfect with these postage stamps and you’ve brought those wildflower images so beautifully to life! Absolutely beautiful card my friend…LOVE it!! Hugs. :0)

  5. I agree Karen, it would not have occured to me to use these colours but when forced to it I found I really liked the end result! I love the border, wondered at first if it was a piece of DP but how could you not have used it before?! I have the postage starter set but none of the stamps and stencils for the infil, there’s far too much choice, so it’s still in the NEBUS pile! 🙂

  6. Hooray! I am so pleased you are still online, and “they” have done a really impressive job of transferring all your archive material, as well as copying the old design. You must be thrilled. I (hope I) have updated my feed info, but will keep an eye on it in the first few days.
This latest card is, as always, charming. It would be perfect for a UK May birthday, as that’s when the bluebells flower here.
Happy continued blogging, and safe travels!

  9. These postage stamps are so bright and pretty, Karen, and a beautiful way to use these colors! I always love seeing these postage stamp dies and stamps!

  10. The CH colors worked beautifully with the WF floral stencil and the airmail postage edge is so perfect. I think WF has something like that too, I’ll have to check it out. You’ve created a great layout as well, Karen, using just three of the postage sizes and the little circle. Fabulous card!

  11. Karen, I always love when it’s time to bisit your NEW blog. I know that it must have been a panick for you that Typepad was closed the accounts! I love everything postal collage and especially your card. I have this stencil and have never used it, now I have a reason!

  12. I am in love with this design!!! I haven’t given my postage stamp supplies enough love and they sure look great with these colors. Beautiful card Karen!
