Just a Note

I’m on the Memory Box blog today with a sentiment-focused notecard using flowers from the Arched Flower Basket, the Woven Flower Basket and the Flower Basket Bouquet dies. I used the largest of the Cinched Frame dies to create a shaped card. The front panel was cut from a pretty teal paper from the Lagoon Paper Pack. I die cut a second frame from white cardstock (so it’s easy to write a note!). I scored about 3/8” down from the top of the white panel to create a hinge and glued the two pieces together.

The next step was to cut a third Cinched Frame in white for the focal panel. I chose a teal cardstock just a shade darker from the Lagoon pack for the sentiment, die cut and stacked three of the Just a Note dies before adding them to the center of the front panel.

Then I just needed to arrange my flowers which were die cut from various papers in the Lagoon, Sunrise, Blush, and Greenery paper pads. I’m sending this off to the Word Power Challenge (focal point is the sentiment) and A Cut Above Challenge—die cuts!

Flower-Filled Watering Can

It’s my day on the Memory Box blog. I love the Rustic Watering Can die. It’s the perfect size to hold a flower arrangement.

I die cut and assembled a LOT of flowers and foliage from the Arched Flower Basker recently, and chose primarily yellow and orange ones for this bouquet. The watering can was die cut from gray cardstock. I added a little darker ink blending to add some interest and dimension. After creating a card base from white woodgrain cardstock, I die cut a slightly smaller panel with the Heritage Rectangle Frame die and layered it on the card base. Once the watering can was added to the panel, I spent some time arranging the foliage and flowers in the can, tucking some behind others and some peeking out from the top of the watering can.

I chose one of the White Gold Foiled Greeting Tags for the sentiment, adding two tiny flowers as embellishment.

I’m sending this off to AAA Birthday Challenge where they’re celebrating their 6th birthday with an Anything Goes Challenge and to Darnell’s NBUS. The watering can is making its debut.

Two Clean and Simple Cards for Memory Box

It’s been a wild week, and although I’ve been busy at the crafting table in between commitments (of which there were far too many), I haven’t had a chance to photograph or edit most of them. These two cards went up on the Memory Box Blog on Wednesday. Last year I received a wonderful birthday card which I saved for inspiration. These cards are a close CASE of that card.

I loved the design and decided that one of the many florals in the Arched Flower Basket die would work perfectly for it. I love that just one small die from a large set can be inspiring on its own.

I created the card with yellow flowers first, and then made a smaller version with vellum flowers like the ones on the card I received.

Both card bases were created with Fresh Snow Linen cardstock from Papertrey Ink. The first one is 5 1/2 X % 1/2 inches with a 5 X 5 panel layered on top with dimensional tape. The flowers were die cut from yellow cardstock in the Sunrise Paper Pack with gold mirror centers. Once the flowers were assembled, I arranged them on the panel, and glued a piece of white cord behind each flower. I tucked the ends under the panel and adhered the panel to the card base. For this card I stamped a small greeting with the Sunshine and Wildflowers stamp set on a strip of cardstock attached with dimensional tape.

I followed the same steps to create the smaller card, creating a 5” x5” card base and a 4 1/4” X 4 1/4” panel. I had a piece of lovely purple vellum in my stash and used that for the florals for the Arched Flower Basket and added Clear Fairy Drops for the centers. I chose one of the Happy Birthday Foil Greetings Black Tabs for this sentiment.

The weather has been less than ideal for Memorial Day. Yesterday it poured and the wind took down trees and power lines–luckily not on our street. There’s been no rain today, but it’s still way too chilly for the end of May and the sun is still hiding out elsewhere. The good news is I’ve gotten a lot done inside!

Just a Note

  • by

I’m up on the Memory Box blog today with a card featuring three of the new products from the Sunkissed Summer release. It has been awhile since I did any watercoloring so I pulled out my Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors to create this card.

I die cut the Wild Leaves and one of the Brilliant Butterflies from watercolor paper as well as a background panel. I used three different greens, mixing some together to watercolor the leaves, letting them dry between applications of the watercolor. For the background panel, I used a large brush to watercolor the whole piece in blue. Once it dried I die cut it with new Cinched Frames. The butterfly was last. I used some of the same blue as the background and added a violet to the edges of its wings.

This is off to the Double D Challenge where they want watercolor, and to Darnell’s NBUS–all these products have just been released.

It’s lovely to have some new products to work with, but the name of the release, Sunkissed Summer, is certainly a misnomer here. We’re definitely not close to summertime weather yet. The temps go up and down, but generally is just cool and, too frequently, wet and chilly. It looks like it will improve early next week. The test will be if it can maintain the warm temperatures! We’re off to buy some flowers at our favorite Amish nursery on Friday. I want to be able to put them outside without any fear of frost.

Gifts Galore

  • by

I was on the Memory Box Blog yesterday with a festive birthday card using the Gifts Galore die cut set. I’ve used some pieces of the Gifts Galore die before, but haven’t created a card specifically for them. To start, I die cut all the pieces from white cardstock and colored them with Copic markers before assembling them.

Once that was done, I die cut two circles from the Round Eyelet Circle Frames and layered them on top of one another with some dimensional tape. I created the square cardbase and then added layer of bright green and yellow to the white card. The I spent some time arranging the gifts. Once I was happy with it, I laid a piece of Press n’ Seal over them and flipped it over to add glue to the backs of the gifts. That makes laying them down on the white frames easy peasy.

Finally, I added one of the Happy Birthday White Foil Tabs from Memory Box across the bottom of the circle with dimensional tape.

I’m sending this off to the AAA Birthday Challenge where they’re celebrating seven years of creating fun challenges for card makers. It’s also off to the Wednesday Simon Says Challenge (they’re looking for Colorful.)

Shaped Poppies Card

  • by

I’m here to share a new card that went up on the Memory Box Blog this morning. Red poppies are my favorites, and I’ve been meaning to get back to the delightful Playful Poppies stamp set. This stamp is large enough for a 5X7 card, but I wanted one that was A2.

I stamped the image with Copic friendly ink on white cardstock and then placed one of the Nested Globes over the design to decide which part of the design I wanted to highlight. I die cut it before I colored it with Copic markers. It’s been awhile since I did any Copic coloring, so this was lots of fun.

To createdthe card base, I die cut two of the next largest Nested Globes from black cardstock. On one piece I scored about 1/2 inch from the top and folded it back. I applied glue above the fold, and added the other piece to the front.

I attached the poppy panel to the front of the card base, and added a Black Tab Birthday sentiment. I decided to keep this very Clean and Simple, so didn’t add any embellishments.

I’m sending this off to Seize the Birthday: Spring Garden, my second entry this round.

A Pocket Full of Poseys

  • by

I’m back on the Memory Box blog with another card using the wonderful floral die cuts from the Woven Flower Basket. This time I created a card with a faux pocket and arranged the flowers at the top edge of the pocket.

The first step was to die cut the flowers from papers in the Lagoon, Blush, Greenery, and Sunrise paper packs. Next I die cut the largest of the Round Eyelet Circle Frames from white cardstock followed by a circle from the Basic Circles Dies just a bit smaller than the Eyelet Frame. I die cut the plain circle with the Pinpoint Flower Plate and cut it to a little more than half to create a pretty pocket which I attached to the Eyelet Frame.

I arranged the flowers and leave on the pocket, some with dimensional tape, and attached one of the cute gold embossed Happy Birthday Greeting Tags, also with some dimensional tape.

I’m sending this off to the As You See It Challenge where you fill in the blank:

I definitely mail birthday cards more than any other! In fact, I’ll be mailing 14 birthday cards in the month of May! I’m also sending it off to Seize the Birthday: Spring Garden.

Spring Flower Basket

  • by

This is a card I created for Memory Box awhile ago, but was just posted yesterday. The Flower Basket Bouquet from the Spring Blossom release, is sure to get a lot of use. I stuck very close to the design on the product envelope but earlier I used just the tulips to make a simple bouquet and have used a few of the flowers on other projects. So many possibilities, especially when combined with the Woven Basket die from the recent Birthday Blossoms release.

I die cut the basket from light gray cardstock, and added some ink blending to give it some dimension. I die cut the backing to the basket with dark gray cardstock.

All the flowers and leaves with die cut with scraps of cardstock in my stash—many of them from Memory Box paper packs: Blush, Lagoon, Sunrise and Greenery. I added a bit of ink blending to some of them, and used a Sakura Black Glaze pen to add centers to the small white flowers.

The largest of the Oval Eyelet Rectangle Frames was die cut from dark gray cardstock and then adhered to a light gray card base. I attached the basket to the background with dimensional tape which makes it easier to arrange the flowers. I also added some bits of dimensional tape to some of the flowers. The final touch was to add a few clear Fairy Drops.

I deliberately left off a sentiment. It will be easy to add a little tag for a birthday or thinking of you card when I need it.

Spring is definitely on its way despite nearly freezing temperatures the last couple of night. The forsythia is beginning to bloom, the daffodils are blooming, and there are more warm, sunny days. It will continue to be a roller coaster of temps until May, but the light is beginning to appear!

A Little Sparkle

  • by

I’m up on the Memory Box Blog today with a birthday card that, for me, might just be a little over the top! I do love the happy colors!

I wanted a bit of sparkle and glam so started by stenciling a panel with the 6X6 Polkadot stencil using bright pink, teal, and orange inks. For the fourth and final stencil I applied a layer of Pearl Shimmer Relief Paste. I set that aside to let it dry completely while I die cut the largest of the Notched Eyelet Frames from silver metallic cardstock. Then I trimmed down the stenciled panel so it would fit just inside the decorative frame. I used a corner rounder to round the corners of the panel before adhering it to the silver frame. Next, I created a card base from bright pink cardstock and rounded the corners of the card base before adding the decorative panel.

The greeting was stamped with bright pink ink on white cardstock and die cut with the accompanying die. I added it to the card front with dimensional tape. The final touch was to scatter a few crystal clear Fairy Drops for some added sparkle.

I’m sending this off to Addicted to Stamps and More: Birthdays.

I’ll be back a bit later with my entry into the March Woodblock Wednesday group.

Make A Wish

  • by

I have a new card up on the Memory Box blog this morning, and wanted to share it here,

I love Sebastian Mouse on a swing. Not long ago, I saw a tutorial for a Faux Tunnel card and thought it would be great for Sebastian Mouse.

I die cut the mouse from white and gray cardstock and his cute outfit from papers in the Sunrise Cardstock Pack. Although the die includes texture for the wooden swing, I cut it from a scrap of woodgrain cardstock. I added a bit of ink blending to the individual pieces before assembling the mouse and the swing.

To create the Faux Tunnel, I chose three pieces of cardstock from the Lagoon Cardstock Pack and cut a circle from each using the Basic Circle Dies, making sure I layered the pieces so they created an even tunnel effect. I used the 4th largest circle, and then the 8th and 6th largest. For the last layer, I created a white card base, hand cut two “cloud” stencils and used a blue ink to create a sky.

I popped each layer up with dimensional tape. Before adding the top layer I attached Sebastian Mouse to the backside, adding two layers of foam tape to the back of the mouse. For the sentiment, I added a tiny brad to the White Greeting Tag and attached it with a bit of dimensional foam.

The card came together easily, and if you’re a card maker, it makes for a more unique card design. Despite the two layers of dimensional tape, it went into an envelope pretty easily.

There’s a lot of die cutting here, so I thought I send this over to A Cut Above where it’s always Anything Goes. I haven’t played along with them in quite awhile.

It’s still snowing here. Everyone has had enough. We haven’t seen the pavement on our driveway since I got back from my trip south two weeks ago. At least the sub-zero temperatures have eased up a bit.

Stay warm!

Blue Skies Ahead

  • by

A quick post (two days in a row!) I was up on the Memory Box blog yesterday, and wanted to post the card here as well. I thought Memory Box’s pretty Daisy Umbrellas would make a fun encouragement card, and created a square card with three pretty umbrellas, and a wish for “blue skies ahead.”

I used a circle die and the Raindrop Plate to create the background and added the daisies die cut from  cardstock in the Sunrise Cardstock pack. The sentiment is from the Playful Poppies Clear Stamp set.

May there be many blue skies in your forecast!

More Yellow Poppies

  • by

I have another set of yellow poppies to share that went up on the Memory Box Blog today. These poppies were created with the Playful Poppies Embossing Folder. It creates a very deep impression, causing me to make some adjustments to the “sandwich” I used on my die cutting machine. I also discovered that using Letterpress paper, lightly sprayed, gave the best result.

I had hoped to create red poppies, but I couldn’t find the right combination of inks, so went back to yellow and orange, using the accompanying stencil to color them. I used five shades of yellow and orange inks from Pinkfresh Studio for the flowers, and two green inks for the leaves.

I added the stamens with a Micron 02 pen and the anthers with a black Glaze Pen. A Thinking of You Gold embossed Black Greeting Tab was added for the sentiment.

A blogger friend from England mentioned seeing signs of spring already. There’s nothing but white outside my window, and the wind chill is bitterly cold.

It’s been awhile since I played along with Simon Says Wednesday Challenge, but they’re looking for stencils this week.

Tulip Bouquet

  • by

It’s been a long week already. Both Tracy and I have been fighting some kind of upper respiratory infection since late last week. We both tested negative for Covid, so that’s good, but whatever it is it’s lingering far too long. This card was made for the Memory Box blog, but I’m sharing it here because it was inspired by the Festive Friday Challenge which closes early tomorrow morning.

The challenge is to pick three items from the list to incorporate in your card. I chose red, yellow, tulips, and a fourth, Happy Birthday.

The new Memory Box release, Spring Blooms, has a fun die set called Flower Basket Bouquet. What’s great about it is you can use just one or more elements from it. I chose just the tulips, die cutting them from white cardsstock and coloring them with finger daubers and a variety of Pinkfresh inks.

I trimmed a piece of ivory cardstock to 5 1/4” X 4” and then die cut one of the Eyelet Circle Frame from the center of the panel. and then cut a plain circle from the Eyeleet frame. Once that was done I layed the resulting frame back into the panel and attached it with narrow tape on the back.

I arranged the tulips and leaves inside the circle, adding dimensional tape to some of the tulips and leaves. Then the decorated panel was attached to a card base of ivory cardstock, and a Happy Birthday Black Tab Greeting was added to the card.

Playful Poppies

  • by

These Playful Poppies from the new Spring Blooms release by Memory Box are so beautiful. Since poppies come in a wide variety of colors, I’m sure I’ll be pulling these out for lots of occasions. For its first run, I decided to get out my Zig Clean Color Brushes and do some watercoloring. I stamped the image on watercolor paper and embossed it with clear embossing powder. I used the Yellow and Bright Yellow (really an orange yellow) pens for the poppies and Smoky Yellow and Deep Green pens for the leaves.

Once the poppies were dry, I die cut them with the accompanying dies. I love these intricate dies that cut between the leaves and the flowers. This is a large image, so I die cut the largest of the new Oval Eyelet Rectangle Frames and created a 4 1/2 X 6 inch card base from bright yellow/green cardstock. After arranging the poppies on the panel, I stamped and die cut the sentiment, also from the Playful Poppies  stamp set. I added it to the card with some dimensional tape and decided the card needed no additional embellishment.

I’m sending this off to Simon Says Challenge: Something New and NBUS for my first entry in January.

A Birthday Happy Dance

  • by

One of my favorite images from the Joyful Season release is the Happy Dance Bird. I’ve seen a variety of wonderful cards on the internet using it for holiday cards, but I thought she could do a happy dance for a birthday as well.

I die cut the bird from white cardstock and colored it using finger dauber with a variety of inks. I wanted a focal point for her, so die cut two circles from the Circle Basics dies, one from bright yellow cardstock from the Sunrise paper pack, and one from bright pink from my stash to coordinate with the bird’s scarf.

I thought it would be fun to create an easel card for the Happy Dance. I chose a pretty pink cardstock, created a top folding card and scored the front at the halfway point. I ink blended an ombre pattern on some scrap cardstock and die cut the sentiment from Warm Wishes Stylish Script to use as a stopper for the easel card, adding it to the yellow shadow die. I stacked several more shadows to create a thicker stop so the easel will stand up. easily. Next I arranged the Happy Dance Bird, some gifts from Plentiful Presents, and a birthday greeting from the Happy Birthday Greeting Tabs to the circle, The final step was to carefully add the circle to the bottom half of the card front.

I think the Happy Dance Bird is sure to bring a smile to any birthday celebration!
