Papertrey February Blog Hop

This is my second Papertrey Ink post of the day—a bit unexpected. Maybe it's this:

  Snowblowingw

Or perhaps I've just lost track of time, but today is the Papertrey Blog Hop, and I nearly missed it. Fortunately we're snowed in so I had time to get my card made. The photo above was taken about 9:00 this morning and it has yet to stop snowing. Matt's been plowing since 7:00 am and says there's no end in sight.

Here's this month's challenge:

This month we decided to dedicate the Blog Hop to scallops!  We want to see your best use of scallops, of any sort, on a project!  This can include scalloped borders, offset-scallops, stamped scallops,  scalloped mats, scalloped frames, layered scallops, scalloped tags or anything else you can dream up! You can use dies, patterned scissors or even circle punches in a row to achieve your special look.

Here's my take on it:

HappyBDBlogHop2.25

I made a shaped card with the large scalloped Nestability dies, then used a piece of MME's Stella & Rosa patterned paper pad that I picked up yesterday for the mat. It was cut with a square Nestability and then punched on the corners. The checked scalloped (Papertrey small scallop die) border is also from the MME's collection. I die cut a Fillable Frame #4, stamped the border and message with Brilliance ink, and added the butterfuly from Love Lives Here with a bit of the Harvest Gold twill taped behind the heart. The rhinestones are from Hero Arts.

I'm a bit more timely this week with the Papertrey Make-it Monday challenge which called for using Scor-Tape to create glitter strips on the card.

MakeItMonday

My intention is to make a card for Papertrey's Make-It Monday challenge each week. We've been so busy finishing the work on the dining room and living room that I didn't even start the card until after dinner tonight. I wanted to try Nicole's technique of shadowing with the Copic markers as well as using the vellum sentiment strip. I'm happy with the shadow technique but only mildly satisfied with the overall card, but that's not a surprise since I'm doing this at the last minute! I scored a frame around the Raspberry Fizz cardstock with my Martha Stewart Scoreboard and used a piece of striped vellum from my stash for the sentiment. The pearls are Memory Box, but all the other supplies are from Papertrey Ink.

PTI Anniversary Party: BIG Challenge

  • by

I'm enjoying these Papertrey challenges. Today's was to create a card with a BIG sentiment, focal point . . . I don't have a lot of large stamps but I do have Big and Bold Wishes and used a similar repetition from an earlier challenge. I find I'm wanting to stamp in bright and cheerful colors to counteract the dreary snow and cold here.

WishBig

Cardstock:  Select White & Hawaiian Shores (PTI) and Romani (Basic Grey); Stamps: Big and Bold Wishes (PTI), Ribbon: Celebrate It (Michaels) and dotted from stash; Birthday candle (unknown).

Tags and Frames

Today Papertrey Ink introduced new tag and frame stamps designed to coordinate with products they already have on the market. I love the versality of stamps like these. The challenge was to combine a tag with a frame. It's been a very busy day so, fortunately, I had a tag and a frame already die-cut as well as a cute Teresa Collins star. It didn't take too long to stamp and put it altogether. Eventually, I'll probably put this on a birthday card.

Except for the star and ribbon from my stash, all Papertrey Ink:  Pure Poppy and Select White cardstock, Fillable Frame #5, twine, Pure Poppy button.

PTI Button Challenge

Today was the first day of the new release at Papertrey Ink. I absolutely love buttons and use them all the time in both cardmaking and scrapbooking, so the stamps and dies really appealed to me. The challenge today, then, was to use buttons. Betsy Veldman's project this morning used fabric which inspired me to go buy some interfacing and try fabric with the Love Lives Here dies. I'm very happy with the way it worked out.

PTIButtonCard

Along with the Love Lives Here dies, I used a sentiment from the same set, a small kraft card by Paper Source and three heart buttons from my stash. I scored two lines between the die cuts and the sentiment. The fabric came from a fat quarter I picked up at JoAnne's since years ago I got rid of almost all the fabric I had when I gave up sewing on a regular basis.

PTI Anniversary Party: Color Challenge

  • by

This is my third post of the day since each challenge card for the PTI Anniversary Party requires a separate post. Today's challenge is a color challenge. I wanted to get the card done right away since I'll be out this afternoon. If I'm lucky I'll have time to get another one done before the deadline. All these challenges are adding to my card collection so I should be well prepared when birthdays and other occasions come along. I chose Erin Lincoln's colors: Ripe Avocado, Ocean Tides, Vintage Cream, & Dark Chocolate. Sadly, I seem to need a lot of get-well cards recently so I went to one of my favorite sets for this–"Chair-ished." The sentiment comes from the "On My Couch Additions" set, and the papers are all from the Green Tea Leaves collection.

PTI Anniversary Party: Make It Monday-Take 2

Scroll down one post for an explanation of this Papertrey Ink Anniversary Challenge. For this Go-To Sentiments card I decided to fill the Friendship Jar with thank-you messages. I stamped and cut a piece of Clearly Creative cardstock and fit it on top of the stamped messages. Sadly, it's not too easy to see in the image.

More fun at Papertrey Ink. They've started a biweekly challenge with video. This week's is a Go-To Sentiment card where you stamp multiple sentiments from different stamps sets to create a card. My first one is a birthday card and uses sentiments from six different PTI stamp sets. I used Brilliance inks which have a bit of sparkle to them and colored the cute cake stamp (which has been in my collection for years!) with Copic glitter markers.

Stamp Sets used: Round & Round, Blooming Button Bits, Mat Stack 1 Collection, Make a Wish, Birthday Bash Sentiments, Enjoy the Ride

Papertrey Ink’s 4th Anniversary Party

  • by

It's Papertrey Ink's 4th anniversary, and in typical Papertrey style they've started celebrating big-time! You can check out the details of the contest here. Despite the odds against winning this fabulous prize package, I knew I'd find it interesting to go back through the year (February to February) and look at what I created with Papertrey products. I found several I like more than others. This, this (the first card), this, and this. But I finally decided on this thank-you card that I created for all my Christmas thank-you notes. I love the simplicity of it, and the colors. And it uses one of my favorite stamp sets, Love Lives Here, that was released in the last year. Details are here.

HeartHomeThanks

Papertrey January Blog Hop

  • by

Bloghoplogo

As soon as I saw this month's challenge I knew I wanted to participate so, for once, these cards were done early in anticipation of today's blog hop. Here's the challenge:

With the new year comes a clean slate along with many resolutions.  This month's blog hop challenge involves you challenging yourself to use a Papertrey stamp set that has yet to see ink or even one that might be collecting a little dust!  Go through your stash and see what little used treasure it might hold.  If you are in need of inspiration for your chosen set, feel free to utilize the gallery posted in the side bar of each set's sale page on our website, or go to the Previous Countdown page on Nicole's blog where each set is organized by month of release.  2011 is the year where what's old is new again!

My January order from Papertrey arrived the morning I sat down to create for the blog hop so I got to combine some infrequently inked stamps with some brand new never-inked stamps. This first card is my favorite of the three and has gone in the mail this morning to a friend who had a hip replacement yesterday.

TeaTime
For this card I combined the Tea for Two Additions set with the new Mat Stack 3 collection. All other products are from Papertrey Ink as well.

The next card also combines a stamp set I purchased in December but hadn't inked up with the new Tag Sale 3 die. The sentiment and image both come from the Make a Wish set. The flower stickers are from my stash. I bought them at Michael's but have no idea who the manufacturer is. The card itself was created using the Grand Nestability Labels One die, cut, embossed, and folded in half.

BDCakeTag
The last card isn't my usual style. I love this dress form as it reminds me of my first creative endeavors as a seamstress. I started sewing when I was ten years old for the 4-H program and continued through my senior year in high school. For many, many years I made lots of clothes for myself, my husband, and the kids. Then fabric, buttons, patterns, and accessories became so expensive that it no longer made any sense. Now my sewing machine sees more papercrafting projects than anything else.

Heart'sDesire

I started out with the bright and cheerful papers from Cosmo Cricket's DeLovely collection and went from there. I found that "perfect match" ribbon in my stash. The cardstock and ink are Raspberry Fizz and the stamp and sentiment are from Signature Series: Dress Form.

Well, I'm off to hop along on Nicole's blog. There's always a lot of inspiration to be had on a PIT Blog Hop!

Still here . . .

I've been busy creating a couple of projects for the Scrap-Mart blog in anticipation of the new releases at CHA this weekend. I was lucky enough to get a couple sets of the new Spellbiners Grand Nestabilities to play with and can't wait to share them with you once CHA is underway and they've been posted on the Scrap-Mart blog. I've also been busy with Kim Klassen's Photoshop the Essentials class. Like the earlier classes I've taken for free, this is wonderful. I've learned a lot in just two days of lessons even though she's been covering material I have had some experience with. It's going to take a lot of practice to make some of these skills automatic, but that's what I hope to do.

Here's a card I created for the Scrap-Mart blog and sent to my adult nephew earlier this month. I love this Tim Holtz Alterations die and had a lot of fun playing with it. I die cut multiple images in different colored and textured papers and then cut out individual houses to layer on top of the kraft base. I added a little distress ink and a metallic embossed greeting.

Townscape
It was -5° this morning and just too cold to venture outside! I do have a church meeting tonight for which I am the secretary, but I'm going to reward myself with a stop at Starbuck's on the way!
