Nancy is our hostess for the September 1st Color Hues Challenge. When I saw her color combo, Dusty Blue and Brown, I immediately thought of The Greetery’s 3D embossing folders that I’d seen embossed with brown woodgrain cardstock, so that’s where I started.

I’d like to say it came together quickly, but I started with one embossing folder, played around with some options, and then started over with the Pretty Picado suite of products. This is the first time I’ve used the Pretty Picado Stencils, and I also pulled out the Capsule Star Studded Borders for the first time.

Once the border was embossed I swiped a bit of white ink over it to soften the color and enhance the beautiful embossed pattern. I used a couple of different blue inks for the stenciling. For the star border, which I love and think I will use a lot, I chose Matte Silver cardstock. The silver embossed sentiment is from the Pretty Picado Stamp set and I added some tiny silver pearls for a bit of shine on the stenciled panel. This shaped card is bigger than an A2 card, but fits nicely in an A7 envelope.
Check out the Color Hues Blog for more inspiration my wonderful Design Team and our talented Guest Designer, Michele, and join us in the gallery.
I’ll be away when this post goes live, but will send this off to the September NBUS Blog when I get a chance. It’s always good to use a couple more new products!
Karen what a beautiful design. The brown frame and all of it’s texture is so elegant and the pretty stencilling inside the frame is so very lovely!
Simply stunning – the shape of the lacey base really sets the greetings up. It reminds me of tin …
Karen, your card is lovely. The frame, + the stenciled insert = a wonderful showcase of your new products and, especially, our challenge combination. Love this.

What a wonderful way to use these colors, Karen! I love that embossed border and the stars. I may need to take another spin around the Greetery store! You are such an enabler (and I love it)!
I love the Pretty Picado in the dusty blues and brown Karen…it’s absolutely BEAUTIFUL! I love that star border too and didn’t think I needed it, but now you’ve got me thinking I might NEED it!! Beautifully done my friend!! Hugs. :0)
What a beautiful card and so unique using those wonderful products from The Greetery!
Love the way you aged the frame with white. This is a striking card, Karen! Have a great day!
Such a classy make Karen, your aged ‘wooden’ frame works a treat with the rest of the die cuts and stencilling. 🙂
I hear you on thinking it’s going to go together quickly, Karen – and then things don’t look right etc, etc! You certainly ended up with a beautiful result! I have some of these Greetery stamps/dies and must play with them! I love you shaped card and the colors work beautifully with the dies! Julia xx
This is beautiful Karen! I managed to snag a few of her capsule items before packing up so I’m excited to get to use them. I will definitely use this one as inspiration!
I really love the capsule shaped cards and yours is simply stunning, with all the texture and pretty stenciling. It looks amazing in brown and dusty blue. Even though it took longer than expected to create, the end result is so lovely, Karen!
