It's been a long time since I participated in a CPS challenge. They've always been one of my favorite challenge sites. This week's sketch is a bit challenging, but I had some new Jillibean papers on my desk and a new Spellbinders Nestability so I decided to take it on. Here's the sketch:

Papertrey September Blog Hop Challenge

I love the Papertrey Blog hops and feel lucky to have gotten this card done in time! Here's the challenge:

One of the most fun things about this hobby is the people you meet,
whether in person or online, and the things you learn from them.  Now is
your chance to show off any skills you might have learned from a fellow
stamper, and perhaps even give them a little shout out to thank them
for the inspiration they have provided.  Create a project using one of
your favorite learned skills and perhaps after a little blog hopping, we
will ALL learn some new tips and tricks and continue to pass on the
love of this hobby!

Nicole Heady, one of the owners of Papertrey Ink, inspires me every month with her creations for the monthly release parties. One of the techniques she uses frequently  that I have always admired is drawing a frame around her main focal image. I have tried occasionally to master this technique, but my ability to draw a neat, well connected frame around an image is far from masterful. Now with the new "Framed" set of stamps, I can replicate this look with ease.

For this card, I stamped the leaves from "Turning a New Leaf," masked some of the leaves and then stamped the frame. The butterfly is from "Butterfly Dreams" and colored with Twinkling H2Os. The sentiment is from an old PTI set, "Faux Ribbon." One of the things I love the most about Papertrey stamps is how they can be mixed and matched. Sentiments from this older set fit beautifully into the break in the frame of this brand new set. The cardstock is Select White and Enchanted Evening, and the gems are from Creative Imaginations.

Moxie Fab Offset Scallop Challenge

I love scallops and Moxie Fab issued a challenge for
projects with offset scallops. It was a perfect opportunity to get our my
Papertrey Ink scalloped border dies. 
I started out hoping to use some of my new Teresa Collins papers, but
ended up with just cardstock and a chipboard star from her Celebrate
collection. I also used my Tin Type Impression plate for the first time and
just love it.

Sunday Creative: Timeworn

I've wanted to participate in the Sunday Creative challenge  ever since it started, but this is my first contribution. I've always liked this photo of the barbed wire, and it seemed perfect for the theme "timeworn." It also seemed like a good candidate for playing with textures. So here are three versions. I'd like to hear which of them you like best.

Papertrey Pixie Challenge and Garden Update.

I finally finished a card last night that has been on the "to do" list all of June . Why I wait until the last minute, I do not know! Karen H. posted this challenge at the beginning of the month. It's a photo of fat quarters and we could use the square design, the colors, or sewing on our card.

I used a
little of everything from the challenge. I deliberately did an uneven
stitch around the edge of the card, cut the scalloped squares with a
Nestability die, and added something different to each square. The
green and orange also come from the challenge colors. I colored the
flower and the button twine with my Copic markers. Thanks
for the challenge, Karen! It was a good one.

We went to the garden yesterday for the first time in over a week, and I was amazed at how much the plants had grown. The tomatoes are nearly as tall as my shoulder, the pole beans are crawling up the poles, and the lettuce and herbs are lush and full.

The empty spot you see in the middle is partly the path we left to get into the middle of the garden but also where the peppers are planted. They are the only plants not doing too well.

We brought home enough lettuce for a week and picked just a portion of
it. Before we go to my brother's this weekend, I'll go back and pick
some to take to him. By then there should be a couple more zucchini ready to pick. We also harvested two large zucchini which I'll use
to make zucchini bread today or tomorrow. These goodies were an
unexpected surprise!

Friday Challenges

Just by coincidence I was responsible for posting two challenges today. The first one was for the Scrap-Mart blog. My challenge is to create a layout or a card using only cardstock and papers from just one manufacturer/line. If you'd like to play along, you can post a link here or on the Scrap-Mart blog. One of my favorite paper lines right now is PinkPaislee Starlight which I used on this layout about the importance of being in the photo yourself.

All the papers and the alpha stickers are from the Starlight line. I used my Slice to cut the stars and the brackets and stitched around the photo frame. I did another layout last week that meets the challenge and uses papers from the same line.

I consider myself fortunate to belong to a very supportive group of women on a photo board, and it's my turn to post the challenge there as well. I decided on the word "fresh" since we've been buying the first fresh strawberries and wonderful fresh asparagus, lettuce, spinach, and radishes from the local farmer's market. I put a few strawberries in a lovely cup I bought at Antropologie a few weeks ago. I knew I'd find some photographic uses for it.

Papertrey Challenge #2 and 2S4Y Challenge

First of all, Happy Memorial Day Weekend! I am always grateful for the sacrifice of men and women in the military that has assured our freedom for over 200 years. I do not take the freedoms we have in our country for granted, but do not often take the time for express my gratitude.

I've been working on another Papertrey Ink challenge this weekend as well as the one for the Pixies. This one was posted on the forum, and it was too good to pass up. It was a challenge to ink up all the stamps you own, but have never used. I knew I had a few, but there were more than I thought. I've ended up with a new stash of cards, however, and relieved some guilt in the process. The first card is also a card for today's challenge at 2Sketches4You.

I used my Beautiful Blooms 2 set for this card. The beautiful border is Basic Grey's new "ribbon doilies" tapes. We used some of this on a layout in a class I took at CKC a week ago. It's self-adhesive and comes in a package with three different designs. The cardstock is Summer Sunrise & the buttons are from my stash.

The next set I used was the Fillable Frames #1. I thought I'd  get a lot of use from this set, and I'm sure I'm correct now that I've inked it up for this card:

"Fly Away" is the next set. Like "Fillable Frames" it was a very affordable $5 and I love the little banner and sentiments that go in it. I bought just one piece of this cute patterned paper at CKC with this card in mind.

Take Three Summer was the next set. I have lots of ideas for this set and this is a super simple, quick to make card. I'm not sure I'd use the Raspberry Fizz next time, I think the Hibiscus might look better.

One of the things I learned this weekend is that stamping backgrounds is not my forte. I love the color combination of Ripe Avocado, Spring Moss, and Raspberry Fizz. I've had this "Guide Lines Two" for awhile and probably haven't used it because I'm not comfortable with making backgrounds. I do have a list of other possibilities so perhaps it will see more use soon.

And last, "Outline Alphabet." I bought this set more for sentiments and scrapbook pages, but have seen a similar design several places and thought I'd give it a trip. Lining up the letters for the block takes the longest; after that the card goes quickly.

Papertrey Pixies Challenge

A month or so ago, I joined a group of 15 women on the Papertrey Ink forum. We have our own blog, and this month was our first challenge which was to stamp a background paper. I almost never stamp on a scrapbook layout although one of the women in this group does it regularly, and very well. I recently purchased "A Little Argyle" stamp set and thought it would be the perfect photo mat for this picture of Matt on his birthday, wearing his favorite argyle sweater. Nothing like putting it off until the very last day of May!

Happy Anniversary

Today is Sarah and Adam's fourth anniversary. It seems so hard to believe that their wedding was really four years ago. It was a beautiful day in every way. Here's one of my favorite "out-takes." The best part is four years later, they're still having just as much fun with one another!

Like yesterday's blog hop, it's been awhile since I participated in the CPS Sketch challenge. This week's sketch reminded me that I had a couple packages of the American Craft Flairs that I hadn't used. I still have some scraps of AC "Dear Lizzy" papers as well so I decided to get busy tonight and get a card made for this week's sketch.

I added another layout to our vacation album this week in response to a challenge Jenn posted at Scrap-Mart. They're getting ready for a wedding in her family so the challenge was to use "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue" in your layout.

Three Cheers for Chairs Challenge

Before our power went off yesterday, I got two cards made
for the Moxie Fab "Three Cheers for Chairs" challenge. For the first card, I debossed the chair to create the dotted
pattern and then colored it with Prisma colored pencils. I’ve wanted to try
this ever since I got the stamp nearly a year ago.

A Second Party Layout

This challenge was to use two 4×6 photos in the layout. Sarah, Matt, & Tracy had a great time at California Adventure Land. Most of the rides weren't for me as I'm terribly afraid of heights. But I enjoyed sitting in the sun and taking photos of them having a great time on the rides.

Photographing a 12×12 layout is one of the most challenging tasks. No way can I get them perfectly straight. The journaling reads: "There’s no way anyone could get me on a ferris wheel of any kind, let alone one where the cars swing back and forth as it goes around. I’m way too afraid of heights, but it doesn’t seem to be a trait either Matt or Sarah inherited. They had a great time, and I did enjoy watching them!"

I missed most of Shimelle's party, but finally had time tonight to get one layout done. If I'm lucky I'll get another one done before it gets too late. As soon as I saw this sketch I knew exactly what I wanted to do. Finding all the right papers took a little longer than I expected. This is my favorite family photo from our trip to California last month.
