Introducing Bitty Dots

  • by

Every day Papertrey Ink introduces a new product prior to their monthly release. Because this is their second anniversary, there have been all kinds of special announcements and new releases. Today was the introduction of polka dot papers and ribbons. I love polka dots, especially the itty bitty ones. So here's a card for today's challenge which was based on a dot-to-dot sketch.

PtiChallenge

Products: Papertrey raspberry fizz paper and ink. A flower from their Floral Frenzy set, and a patterned paper from the Black and White Basics collection. The "love" stamp which I've had for ages has no company identification on it.

Cards and a Challenge

  • by

Although I have a long list of layouts I want to do, I don't seem to have had much motivation for scrapping recently. I have been keeping up with the card-a-day project I hoped to do this year. Some days I make several; most days I make at least one. Today's card is for a challenge at Papertrey Ink, my favorite stamp company.

Since I had all but one of the cardstock colors I decided to join in. Here's my "entry."

And a few others I've made recently. (All my valentines are made, but they can't be posted until after Valentine's Day.)

I'm not so happy with the sharpness of this photo, but the card is already in an envelope for my niece's birthday. This is another Papertrey Ink card–new stamp set (so versatile), raspberry fizz cardstock, and
Black & White Basics patterned paper.

And, finally, another card with the Round And About stamp set from PaperTrey.

Project 365 Layouts: Weeks 4 & 5

  • by

It was a good day. I finished two hybrid layouts, both using the same template I downloaded for free from KylieM Designs. It worked well with both sets of photos which really didn't require any journaling. Since I caption all the photos in the photo blog, I feel less compulsive about the journaling here. This was a layered template which I find much easier to use than the frame I used for Week 3. After it was done, I resized it to 8X8 and put it on cardstock. I'm a much happier girl with a little texture and a bit of embellishment.

After a session on the treadmill and a yoga class, I took off with my camera to Powder Mill Park. I'm not sure I got any stellar shots, but I'm enjoying the switch to manual mode and finding it easier and easier to set both the aperture and shutter speed. Not as quickly as I'd like, but getting there. I'm so sick of being inside, it was great to spend some time in the outdoors. Hopefully the photos will get edited tomorrow.

Project 365: Week 5

Here are my two favorite photos from this week. The rest are posted in the Photo-a-Day log on the sidebar, although four of them don't show up on the calendar. I don't have a clue why that happened and have sent a ticket off to Typepad for some help.

1.26Pearw
I'm buying pears every week. I have a great new recipe for baked pears with craisins, walnuts, and blue cheese. Delicious!

This reminded me of a dragonfly–with a heavy load.

Snow1.28

The view across the street from our side porch. Frankly this photo doesn't begin to show how much snow we've gotten (again). I worked today and the roads were awful this morning; it took me 35 minutes to make a 15 minute trip. I'm always so grateful for my Subaru on days like this. The really sad fact is we have at least two more months of winter here. And I'm tired of it already!

Life is Good

We had the nicest weekend:

  • Had a fabulous dinner (and dessert!) at Tavern 58 on Friday night
  • Heard the Maria Schneider Jazz Orchestra at the Eastman Theater
  • Matt showed up Saturday afternoon, had dinner with him and got the "low down" on all his new classes; had pancakes for breakfast on Sunday morning
  • Went to see a photography exhibit at Image City Photography Gallery
  • Had a long conversation with Sarah and caught up with what's going on in California
  • Started planning our road trip to California this summer; have reservations in Yellowstone for the Fourth of July weekend
  • "Turned in" our tickets from the cancelled trip for tickets to Chicago on my birthday weekend
  • Booked our weekend in Niagara-on-the-Lake in October with Karen and Mike
  • Planned a Saturday get-away in March to get tickets for the Shaw Festival

It's not often that we make so many travel plans in one weekend. With all this cold weather and little desire to go out I'm glad to have such nice events ahead of us. Something to look forward to is always a good thing.

The Day After

  • by

The day after the election I tried in vain to find a New York Times. Then I tried to get on the web site to order the special (expensive) edition, but I could never get through the process. Too many people like me wanting to preserve an historic day. This morning I was out of the house by 6:30 and found a paper at my first stop. On the local news tonight they had a brief story about the fact that all the New York Times were gone by mid-morning. I enjoyed mine with a cup of coffee and a touch of spring.

NYT1.21w

I think I've become addicted to CNN in the last two days. Watching it does make the time go faster when you're walking on the treadmill. I saw it all yesterday, and I didn't mind watching the reruns today. What an event this inauguration was!

Project 365: Week 3 Layout

  • by

I've decided that I'm not a fan of totally digital layouts. I need some texture, some layers. But this week I downloaded some photo frames (no link, unfortunately since the blog has been closed down) that I thought I'd like to try. My first attempt was not very successful, but after some help from my blogging friend, Joni, I managed to get all the photos where I wanted them. Since my album is an 8.5 X 11 album this is what I have. Next week (since I'll need another one page layout) I think I'll try resizing the frame a bit and then mount it on cardstock with a little embellishment.

Week3LOw

Although it doesn't appear to have scanned, there is a narrow black border around the top and two side edges.

Proud

. . . to be an American on this historic day.

Project 365: Week 3

  • by

Well, actually this is a post for both Weeks 2 and 3. Week 3 photos are posted in the photoblog on the sidebar, and here is the layout for Week 2.

365Wee2LO

I did a lot of card making this week, sent a fat envelope of valentines off to Pat Adam for the Cards 4 Kids project, and finished two other layouts. I have a list of four or five more I want to do this week, but I have a lot of church business to take care of as well.

It's been so cold, it's been easy to stay home and read, so I finished both of the library books and am now back to reading Songs for the Missing. When I returned the library books, I came home with two photography books to look through. As if I don't already have a pile of my own to read!

Corbett’s Glen

  • by

I have driven by the parking lot for Corbett's Glen on old Penfield Road many, many times but until this week I had never been there. Monday Matt and I took a long hike through the glen. If you live in the Rochester area, I highly recommend it. It was a beautiful winter day (with temperatures in the 30s, rather than the subzero temps of today) and the trail is well marked and used. We encountered several other people, many walking their dogs. Here are my favorite photos from the hike.

Matt and I both agreed that it would be great to go back in other seasons. According to the official web site the glen is a stopping place for migrating birds in the spring and the fall. The trail is pretty flat except for two short, but steep slopes that take you from North Corbett's Glenn to South Corbett's Glenn.

Free Online Class

  • by

Shimelle

One of my favorite online sources for scrapbook classes is Shimelle.com. I have participated in three of her Christmas Journal classes as well as two others. She's giving a free class that begins on January 18th. All of the information can be found here. Even if you don't have time to complete the project now, be sure to download the prompts so you can work on it later.

Antidote to Winter

  • by

I'm a tulip fan, and I usually start buying them at Wegmans in March. This year I'm already sick of snow and cold weather, and it's only January 16th! Last weekend I bought a pot of white tulips before our bridge group played here on Saturday night. One of these photos will show up as yesterday's 365 photo, but if you're as sick of winter as I am here's a taste of spring.

I usually rely on my 50mm 1.4 lens for shots like this, but my wide-angle Tamron lens did a pretty good job since my Canon lens is off for repair.

Project 365: Week 2

  • by

My photos for this week past are posted in the Photo-a-Day on the sidebar. For the last several days, I've been shooing on manual. Usually I shoot in aperture priority, but a post on Pioneer Woman motivated me to try manual again. It's getting easier, and I'm pleased that this project is really getting me to try some new things. We put away all the Christmas decorations today. Before we took the tree down, I played around with a slow shutter speed and the Christmas tree lights. Fun.

Blogs

  • by

I have friends who don't understand about blogs–about all the information and wonderful inspiration there is on the internet. I admit there are times when I spend too much time reading on the internet and, as noted in a post below, my book reading time has diminished since I discovered the blogging world. I have my son-in-law to thank for this. He has a theological blog that has quite a loyal following. I thought it would be a fun thing to do, a way to commit myself to sharing and writing. It's been a good thing. I've learned so much, and found so much inspiration. And I still get excited when I find a new blog that inspires me.

Today I found Habit–fabulous photography–and through Habit, the blogs of the women who created Habit. Molly is giving away an Epson printer on her blog, so go check it out.  And be sure to check out Habit if you are interested in photography and choosing just the right words to accompany your photographs.
