Color Hues #125

Carol has a fresh and clean color combination for the next Color Hues Challenge — perfect for winter crafting.

Both of my cards came about rather serendipitously. I had an embossed image from my brand new Greetery Shortbread Shapes: Snowflake and several die cut snowflakes from Simon Says laying on my desk along with some Enchanted Evening cardstock, and this color combination came to mind.

I decided on a square format for the beautiful embossed snowflake panel. I couldn’t bring myself to add a sentiment which would have covered up some of that wonderful detail. I added some blue jewels from Pinkfresh studio, and it was done. It’s likely to be a birthday card for a friend’s January birthday.

It had been a long time since I made a mini-slimline card. I embossed just the front panel with Spellbinders Nordic Noel embossing folder. The snowflake, one of my favorites, was part of a kit from Simon Says a few years ago, the Eliza Snowflake

The sentiment is from a Papertrey Ink set I purchased last year, and have never used before: Just Sentiments: Warmth.

We have the talented Bobby as our Guest Designer. Please check out her wonderful card as well as those of the Color Hues Design Team. The challenge will be open until 9:00 am on January 29th.

It’s been awhile since I played along with the Colorful Options Challenge, but January’s is blues and white so off goes these cards.

  1. Two very classy cards Karen, love that shade of blue. Hope your snow doesn’t last for too long. 🙂

  2. Oh my goodness – both of these cards are beautiful. Winter delight & cheer without the chill (col). I really like the shortbread snowflake embossing folder, I think I have a new favourite.

  3. Two beautiful cards, Karen! I am amazed at all the detail of the shortbread shapes snowflake and certainly can see why you wouldn’t want to cover a millimeter of it with a sentiment. It is such a large, gorgeous design, it stands on its own so perfectly. And the mini slim card is delightful! Love the embossing and the snowflake; it’s a favorite of mine as well.

I hope you’re surviving the cold and snow!

  4. The beautiful embossed shortbread snowflake star begs for a square card! It’s so elegant with the blue stones adorning the snowflakes! The slimline is perfect for showing off this darling snowflake and the sentiment and embossed background go with it perfectly! Sounds like you’re seeing lots of snow. Stay safe and warm, my friend.

  5. These are such elegant cards, Karen and I love them both! I think mini slimlines are the best size! I hope you are feeling a bit better this morning. Have a good day!

  6. How lovely! I particularly like the slimline one (not sure how mini it is, but I like the format). If you were on a roll, a bunch of these would work as Christmas cards – but you are probably ready for a break from Christmas crafting at the mo. I gather from others’ comments that you are under the weather – and beleaguered by those same elements – so hope you are over the worst of it soon. I’m still coughing for England!

  7. I know I commented on IG, but had to come by for a close up on my computer…it was totally worth it as both cards are sooooo pretty Karen! They’re both so CAS and I think that’s where the true beauty of both cards lays in their simplicity!! I just got that Snowflake ef from The Greetery and haven’t had a chance to use it yet, but I may have to CASE you and make a few for this years Christmas stash! Your slimline card is just as beautiful too! Lovely, lovely cards my friend!! Hugs. :0)

  8. The detail on that large snowflake is incredible and I can see why you didn’t want to cover it with a sentiment, Karen. I find myself leaving off sentiments, like on my lighthouse card. The other snowflake is more delicate and fits the slimline card perfectly.

  9. I am in love with both of these beauties!!! I agree with you, a sentiment on the shortbread design front would have taken away from all of it’s splendor. Just lovely!

  10. Karen oh my goodness these are both wonderful cards and also CASEable designs! Love your big Greetery die and the simplicity of the snowflake card is brilliant! Always a pleasure to see how you are inspired my friend! xo
