It’s May 1st, and I’m always glad to see this turn of the calendar. In western New York, you can be pretty sure Spring will finally make an appearance and stay put. Stef has chosen a very springy color combination for our new Color Hues Challenge: Yellow and Blue.

While I was hunting for an embossing folder to use on another card, I came across the Altenew 3D Embossing Folder, Fragrant Florals. It’s been awhile since I stenciled an embossed design. I’m happy with the end result, but it was a bit more involved than I anticipated. Because I wanted two colors, it was necessary to do a lot of masking. This card represents the third attempt to get a clean result. I added some white gel pen to the floral centers to make them stand out a bit.

I pulled out two shades of blue, yellow and gray inks to color and shade the florals and leaves. I cut down the embossed panel in order to have a narrow mid-gray frame on a dark gray card base. The sentiment is gold foiled with Spellbinder’s You Are Everything Sentiments which fit in perfectly with the florals. I added a few gold pearls as a final accent.

Please hop over to the Color Hues Blog to see the variety of cards by my very talented teammates, and our Guest Designer, Greta! Then I hope you’ll head for your crafting table, and add a card to our gallery.
How pretty is this! I love the layout and how you shifted the EF to one side. I think your bold colors makes this card stand out in the lineup. Wonderful job, Karen!
Fragrant Florals is one of my favorite sets and you have inspired me to get it out again, Karen! I love how you used 2 shades of blue and yellow for the flowers and shades of gray for the leaves! A gorgeous card, my friend!
A very pretty card. What a lovely colour combination. I admire your dedication to getting this method just right. Can one have too many floral dies, folders & stamps in the stash (col). Never I say!!
The yellow section of my spring border is fading now but the blues are as vibrant as ever, just like your card. Fab stencilling too. 🙂
It was well worth the extra time to mask on this card Karen as the end result is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!! Your yellows and blues stand out so perfectly against the white background and really shout “look at me!”. Lovely, lovely card my friend!! Hugs. :0)
Karen, this is one of my very, very favorite Altenew bundles and I was thrilled to see your embossed and stenciled card in the blue and yellow combo! Well done keeping at the stenciling – that can definitely be a test for one’s patience to have to redo multiple times lol! The result is beautiful though, especially with florals in both colors. Love this!
I’m glad you persevered in creating this card, Karen, because the results are gorgeous. Your flowers…swoon!
hugs~carol
I’m not good at masking, so can’t imagine doing what you did. But it was certainly worth your efforts as the result is gorgeous! Such a great was to use the color combo, Karen!
Karen, from the moment I saw your design in our gallery I was in love with it. Every detail is so beautifully stencil and your flowers are really lovely. You use such perfect tones of blues and yellows and now you’ve got me going through my embossing folders to find something similar. I always a pleasure to drop by here! 🙂
