Color Hues #144

Bonnie has chose Red and Green for the November 1 Color Hues Challenge. It’s just perfect for me because I’m still in need of many more Christmas cards.

A few months ago, Pinkfresh Studio had a site-wide sale and I picked up three of their stencil and die sets. You stencil the design and then use the die to create both dimension as well die cutting the image. In the case of Whispering Poinsettias the die cuts the design leaving beautiful background space.

I actually stenciled a set of these while we were visiting Sarah in Wisconsin. I used red Pinkfresh Studio inks, but when they dried I felt they had become a deep pink rather than red. Tht’s fine for poinsettias, but not for a red and green challenge. For this card I used my favorite red, Pure Poppy, from Papertrey Ink. Placing it on a black card base created a striking Christmas card.

I added Pinkfresh Studio Gold Glitter Drops to the centers of the flowers and used one of the beautiful Spellbinder’s Fancy Sentiment Strips foiled in gold which didn’t obscure much of the floral design.

Be sure to check out all the inspiration from the Color Hues Design Team and our wonderful Guest Designer, Vikki Hein—a long time blog friend of mine who I’ve had the pleasure of meeting twice when we’ve been in the Northwest!

I’m sending this card off to a very new Christmas challenge: AAA Christmas Card Challenge, and to NBUS–this is the debut of the Whispering Poinsettias suite. AAA Christmas Card’s first challenge is: Traditional Christmas. You can’t get much more traditional than red, green, and poinsettias. This is my second entry there since I entered my most recent Memory Box card there last Wednesday.
